Welcome to The Madeira Times!

With the start of 2010 we are working hard to bring you more from our website this year.

We are launching some new and useful pages as well as new articles, island information, interviews and reviews. As in the past, we have always welcomed contributions from you, the reader and look forward to once again, receiving and sharing your thoughts, ideas, stories and tips about the island, whether you live here or are just a visitor.

Happy New Year!

  Kind regards, Samantha (Editor)

In our regular series, our levada walking expert Shirley Whitehead takes us from Arco do Sao Jorge to Boa Ventura.

If you desire the ultimate, year long, idyllic holiday destination, Madeira, a “diminutive” isle known as the “floating garden” is a lush, fertile and tropical vacation paradise, boasting hospitalable people, strikingly beautiful landscape, balmy breezes, and dolphins, whales and sea turtles who amuse themselves in the warm, crystal clear waters. Just 350km off the coast of Africa and 750 km from mainland Portugal , this “floating jewel” of the Atlantic boasts a gentle climate, gleaming sunshine and a warm and welcoming community.
